The cute ones are always the crazy ones

Thursday, June 4, 2009

Our dog Jack is known to go off his rocker at least once a day. The little puff-ball at some point during each day, without warning, begins sprinting around the house leaping over the furniture and bouncing off the walls. He literally goes from 0 to 60 in .2 seconds for no apparent reason (maybe to get Baxter's attention, but who really knows?). We find ourselves stopping whatever we are doing to watch this amusing display of speed and agility.

On Sunday afternoon after the pups received their weekly bath Jack began his daily spectacle. And there we were innocently laughing at him, saying how cute our soaking wet pup was, as he jumped up on our unmade bed galloping over the comforter and digging around in our pillows. We were in a euphoric, simple-minded state as we watched him fly off the bed and out of the room and down the stairs...and there we were smiling, it was almost sick how happy we were.

So you can probably understand our disbelief when a few moments later we both caught a glimpse of something shiny, liquid, and yellow all over our white comforter. Jaaaaack!!!!!!! I ran downstairs after him to take him outside to finish relieving himself, I guess I shouldn't have been surprised when he only cowered and let out a dribble. I felt so bad, it was absolutely our fault and there he was shivering and feeling terrible. He knows better and he never has accidents it had just been like 6 hours since he'd been outside, and in our condo its hard for him to let us know, and he was shivering and wet and freezing.....way too many variables against him....so we took the blame.

Life lesson: When things get too perfect, be afraid, be very afraid.

My favorite moment of the day: We planned to take the pups for a walk since it was sunny and 72 degrees. When we finally stepped outside the wind was howling and it looked like it might rain, but Baxter and Jack were so excited we couldn't take them back in. And inevitably about 10 minutes into our walk we started to get pelted by rain and hail. We were like is this seriously happening? There was nothing left to do but run. It was a great sight all four of us dodging precipitation, running, and laughing. I wish I had a camera to capture the moment. It was classic. Especially about halfway home when you could tell how pissed Baxter was because he was losing endurance and the little tubbo was beginning to look more like he was getting dragged along rather than winning the race to cover. Man's Best Friend

So, Tanner's been laid up for a week. He strained/pulled (not sure) a muscle in his back and is in such fierce pain that he can't even move. Listen how cute...Tanner dropped some chapstick on the ground and was like, "Ah, man!" But didn't try to picking it up, it just wasn't worth it. A bit later he was upstairs and Jack came up with something in his mouth and dropped it on the floor by his feet. It was the chapstick...he brought it upstairs for Tanner. He honestly brought it to him!?! No chew marks or anything. When Tanner told me I died! It's crazy how animals can actually sense how you are feeling and even try to take care of you. Read more...

A place to call home.

I am unbelievably excited, only one week to go! I have been constantly thinking about how we are going to decorate our new house...we just need to actually be in the house so we can get to work. It is so much fun to actually go out and buy furniture instead of just decorating with hand-me-downs. Here is our first purchase for our spare bedroom. The colors don't come through very well but we are decorating in yellows and greens for this room.

I got awesome deals on both of these...
Bed Frame - $99 (Pottery Barn Outlet)
All Bedding - $58 (Target) Read more...

Driving up the long road to Chris and Christy's house gives me lots of time to strategize how I am going to successfully get five dogs outside without any leakage on the way there. Once I pull in I am out of my car and at a dead sprint with armloads of heavy bags. I enter at the main level and run down two flights of stairs and to the opposite side of the house to release Baxter and Jack from their dog prison slash the game room slash our temporary bedroom. Then the three of us scurry up to the main level then to the third level to two tiny yippers (Chip & Dale). I swoop them up and run (in my heels, mind you) with them like two footballs down to the main level, yell at George who is flailed out on his bed in the kitchen, then we all run around the corner and out the front door. I unlock and open the door and watch them all spill out to the front porch. It is a barking festival. I am sweating bullets and my heart is pounding as my eyes dart all over the yard hoping that one doesn't escape. Sigh. Success.

Puplers

I know that my family probably misses our pups even more than they miss us. Here are a few cute photos to fill the void.

Jack causing trouble. I am not even sure how he got in this box.

Baxter stole this squirrel from Chip and carries it with him everywhere.
He even fell asleep with it in his mouth.

Something exciting...I was a guest blogger on Chris's website. He wants me to add an insider's look into how it is living at their house.

Every day we wake up bright and early to the serene sound of the pool-guys jack hammering their little hearts out. We pry open our eyes and see them laughing and talking about god knows what and Tanner and I look at each other and wonder will this ever end? Even though we have to hear the installation of C squareds new pool and deck we have definitely had a warm welcome in VA. Sometimes warm and wet. We brought our two pups with us and now live in what one might consider a petting zoo.

The Mr. & Mrs. Chris Cooley residence now consists of FOUR people, FOUR yorkies, TWO cats, and ONE great dane, and all of the outdoor wildlife as well...Chris lives in freaking rural nation. Its kind of scary to tell you the truth, especially at night. When we let the dogs out I'm afraid of what might emerge from the wilderness.

Chris & Christy's house always provides a story or two to tell and that's what we love. Last night was Chris's first night at home (he's been at training camp all month, you know). Christy made a delish meatloaf and then we opened over 3,000 football cards last night in search of an Adrian Peterson card. I felt like I was looking for the golden ticket...my thumbs KILL from opening so many packs! This is what we consider entertainment.

Then we started watching the Olympics so we could cheer on our favorite gymnast Shawn Johnson...we waited and waited and waited for gymnastics to start. We were swearing and making fun of the other athletes because we just wanted to watch the all-around gymnastics and it was getting ugly because 3 hours had passed. By the time it finally started Chris & Christy had fallen asleep and Tanner and I can't even harass them because we didn't even make it to the floor routines before we were staring at the back of our eyelids at 1:00 a.m.

So, yeah things are going good...we are slowly realizing that this is not an extended vacation it's real life. It's different but it is definitely real. Read more...
